Welcome to a new semester! I hope that everyone has had a good start to the New Year. We are looking forward to some more great programming from IASC this year! www.iasc.us

First, don't forget to send in nominations for Principal (administrator) and Adviser of the Year. You know that recognizing your efforts and the support of your principal (administrator) are important to the success of your council. Besides, your kids get excited for you! The deadline is February 1st and forms are online.

The Spring Leadership Conference is March 15th. Join us for a great day! Students will get to join the High School division and see a portion of their Representative Assembly. We did this for the first time last year, and we felt that it was good for the Middle School students to see a little of what is available for them as they head into high school. The keynote speaker this year is Sam Glenn. We will also have time with Ted Weise. Ted was our facilitator at the ML Jamboree in the Fall. Please get all the forms and information you need by any of the associated links or clicking the Forms tab and going to the Middle Level/Spring Leadership Conference folder.

Honor Council submissions are due by April 1st. Please send them in and plan to attend our ceremony on May 20th at 1:30 pm in the Convention Center. This is a fabulous time to show your students many of the things that Indianapolis has to offer. Susan Miles said that tours of Riley Children's Hospital can be arranged. Simply contact her at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. Parking arrangements have been made with the Indianapolis Zoo, so perhaps you will want to spend some time there or at the White River Gardens. Indianapolis also has free war memorials that your students can see on their way from the zoo to the Convention Center. Take time to celebrate a year of hard work, giving to others, and achieving your goals.

Don't forget to plan now to send some kids to our great Summer Leaderhip Camp at Manchester College in July! All the information can be found through articles and forms on the website.

You will find information on both of our summer camps which are located at Manchester College in July of 2012. “Read to Succeed” was chosen by the IASC as the state-wide service project theme for the 2010-2012 school years. Each member school’s student council and community are challenged to think of creative and effective ways to promote literacy and a love of reading in the community, the state, and ultimately the nation. Some examples of projects include book drives, reading to elementary children, or cover redesigning competitions. For more info and ideas, or to just report on a successful project; visit the IASC website at www.iasc.us and under the “State Board” tab select “State Project”
