Kathi Green Outstanding Service

The Kathi Green Outstanding Service Award recognizes students who have exhibited outstanding citizenship by their participation in service to their schools and/or to their communities.

Overview

Kathi Green, a long-time leader in the IASC, began her career as a Home Economics teacher at South Dearborn High School in Aurora, Indiana. She later became a guidance counselor there. She successfully hosted two IASC State Conventions – one in 1988 in her 3rd year as a student council advisor, and the second in 1997. She was appointed as the High School Division Associate Director in 1992. Kathi truly believed in student leadership. During her tenure as the IASC High School Division Associate Director, our organization increased its role in training and empowering student leaders in our state and nation. Her death in October of 2001, after a long courageous fight against lymphoma, left a legacy of commitment to and a vision for IASC’s involvement in student leadership. Kathi’s impact on IASC will not soon be forgotten. Her husband Mel and their children, Kelsey and Chris, join us in our commitment to keeping her dream of community service and student leadership alive.
